She was brave despite this and reported the incident and the media houses published the FIR copy WITH THE VICTIM'S NAME showing (legally must be blacked out). If this isn't an act of intimidation, idk what is.

Imo this kinda opinion is also the main reason behind such incidents. It’s a vicious cycle. 
The perpetrators think “she’s with her boyfriend, if we do something now she will not report” this gives them confidence to go and do what they want. When someone reports and even if the parents are supportive, they’re shamed and in this case their identity is also not safe. So more people with stop reporting  SA. The chances of being reported is already less but with a boy along it’s practically 1% or so. So more confidence to do what they want. 
This cycle will never stop.

It’s highly likely that these goons record such videos, threaten the couples, and continue exploiting them. No one else knows about it except the couples and those goons.

There is no systemic reform which is being advocated for. Most college POSH-ICC committees function in a manner where sexual harassment complaints are shutdown or told to be withdrawn because the college 'name' will be affected. That's just one thing. 

Media houses here have no shame in publishing damaging statements and leaking victim details, it's happened so many times at this point no respect for the laws exist. 

If the college solution is to increase curfew instead of investing in better security, then rest assured these incidents will happen again.

POSH-ICC must be composed of independent individuals and proper student representation should be ensured. This is the only way forward to ensuring these mechanisms work.

This is a serious concern. AU, arguably the government's most prestigious institution, is in Guindy a few hundred metres from Raj Bhavan. 

Why does he roam inside the campus? Is he a contractor for canteens/hostels? If not, how does it get past the security at the entrance without a valid reason? If he's a repeat offender, how did it get away many times previously? 

It this is the case in AU itself, it is a sad state of affairs. College campus was the last place I thought such things could happen.

I mean, Nirbhaya’s case, which was basically this on a more brutal level, didn’t change anything.  All those matches, protests, speeches - and we are still here, literally exactly 12 years later.

What honestly will change things is seeing women as people.  It’s an issue at different levels of society across the globe, but rape is ultimately about power and misogyny, and I wouldn’t surprised if the stats correspond directly to how women are viewed in terms of their independence and status. 

As a woman, these things really hurt me to the core. That women are thought so little of.  And given how religious people are in Chennai, it’s amazing to me how unfearing of God they are.

While I was in school, UG and then my first job in Chennai, my parents never let me travel by myself. I had to be dropped by my parents or the college/office bus. And they freaked out if my bus was late or if I didn't attend my phone once we moved on to the age of cellphones. It seemed overprotective, but I'm glad they were rightfully so.

Now that i live abroad, they still freak out if i dont call on time and they've all my neighbors numbers.

WTF. As an alumni for 10 yrs, I could see this coming, but I'm still shocked beyond belief.

We had random workers and outsiders pass through the campus. There are secluded spots/shortcuts where some of my batchmates would often feel unsafe passing through.

The college administration is regressive too. Girl students get shamed even when they're dressed in salwar. A student got suspended because she slapped a guy who covertly took pics of her on campus. There were randos who'd get in during cultural festivals and create trouble.

I am studying here currently and this news honestly devastates me. My prayers go towards the victim and I hope justice is served. 
Lots of people are victim blaming and it's honestly disgusting. The students were INSIDE the campus and even if you pull up the 'secluded' area context, they were still inside the campus nonetheless. The campus is responsible to protect us and what would happen if the place you consider your safe zone doesn't turn out to be one at all? Do we have to be vigilant, even inside an educational institution? And lots of hostellers literally reside here. 
This is honestly so sad and lots of my friends are so scared. Parents are scared to send their children (including my own). I hope all of you are safe.

Campus culture in India (and TN) is a joke. NIT Trichy, SRM, and VIT, among others, have a history of SA on campus and the administrations will do everything (including victim blaming) except addressing the issue. The worst part is that these institutions have the funding and the ability to work on these issues. Instead, they'll victim-blame and try to cover the whole thing up.
